In October 2021, Kristen Stewart revealed her involvement in a sci-fi romance project with Steven Yeun, describing it as a love story between a buoy and a satellite. Stewart praised the script as "revolutionarily written," despite the challenge of explaining such a unique premise.

Release

The film premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024. It was later announced in May 2024 that ShivHans Pictures, which co-produced the film, would handle the U.S. distribution, with Bleecker Street collaborating for the release. WME Independent acquired the international sales rights. Love Me is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on January 31, 2025.

Love Me has garnered mixed reviews from critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 47% approval rating, with an average score of 5.8/10 based on 51 critic reviews. The consensus on the site reads: "Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun are appealing leads, but Love Me's admirable narrative reach exceeds its grasp." On Metacritic, the film holds a score of 54 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."

However, the film was recognized at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, winning the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. This award, accompanied by a $25,000 cash prize from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, highlights films that explore science and technology. Doron Weber, Vice President and Program Director of the Foundation, expressed their delight in honoring Love Me, praising it as "an original and wildly imaginative film about the nature of human identity and our connection to each other in a post-human world mediated through artificial intelligence."
